It’s typically the big game that attracts travelers to the remote reaches of Africa. But what many travelers don’t realize before their trip to Africa is that the smaller animals are just as, if not more, exciting as the big ones!

Below I’ve shared some of my favorite pictures of the smaller animals and birds you may come across on an African safari vacation:

How adorable is this precious little rock hyrax just hanging out in the Zimbabwe bush? Too cute.

Try to look past the Cape buffalo at the funny little oxpecker bird. These birds love to clean the ears, eyes, and skin of the animals in the African bush and they’re quite entertaining to watch!
