It is also home to various animals, birds, and primate pieces, including the mountain gorilla and chimpanzee. Today, you have the rare chance to witness these riveting creatures in their natural habitats on an assortment of Uganda safari tours.

On a gorilla trekking safari tour, you’ll embark on an unforgettable quest through Uganda’s lush rainforests, searching for the elusive mountain gorilla. Once your party has arrived at a gorilla group, you will have time to watch and admire these magnificent creatures’ movements, behavior, and unique social and eating skills.

OVERVIEW

Climate:  Uganda receives rain throughout the year, with two wet seasons from April to May & October to November. Most days temperatures are 75°F – 85°F with nights at 50ºF – 60ºF. January is the warmest month. At higher altitudes, it can be cooler, especially at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Credit Cards: Credit cards are not widely accepted outside of tourist areas. Visa & Mastercard are the most readily accepted. As international ATMs are scarce, it is advisable to travel with US dollars in small bills (printed after the year 2006).

Currency: Uganda Shilling, however, US dollars are widely used. Carry sufficient funds in cash to pay for tips, shopping, activities & meals/snacks outside of hotels. Bring a mix of small & large denominations which are newer than 2006.

Geography: Located in the East Africa plateau in Central Africa, Uganda is approximately 3,609 feet above sea level. With 12% of its land made up of national parks, forestland & reserves, Uganda is home to some of the richest ecosystems in Africa.

Languages:  English & Swahili

Medical:  A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required. Malaria Pills are highly recommended for travel. Please check with your physician as to the proper dosage if necessary.

Packing:  For trekking activities, be sure to have a pair of sturdy/worn-in hiking boots, long pants & long socks in quick-dry materials, a raincoat or poncho with hood, and waterproof bags (plastic ziptop storage bags are perfectly suitable) to keep your camera & other items dry in your daypack.

Visas: U.S. Citizens require a holiday visa to enter Uganda. Passports must have at least 2 blank pages per country visited AND must be valid for at least 6 months after departure from the last country visited. A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required.
