Duba Plains in Botswana is one of the MOST game-rich places on the African continent! On my recent trip to Botswana, where I led a 10-day safari, we stayed at Duba Plains Camp (one of my favorite camps in all of Africa). My heart is still there and I miss it so much! The Camp is super intimate, with only six suites. Because of it’s boutique size, we received personalized service that went above and beyond our expectations.
During our adventures in Duba Plains, Botswana, we saw lion EVERYDAY, including the famous lioness, Ma Di Tau, who was the main character in the documentary, The Last Lions. >>Click here to read one of my recent blog posts, which contains updates on Ma Di Tau.<<
In addition to spotting Ma Di Tau’s pride, we were also on a mission to find another pride. Our guide, James (whom we referred to as James 007), spotted vultures in the distance, which led him to believe the lions might be in that vicinity. Sure enough, they were! He had fantastic eyes and a keen sense for observation!
Below are some pictures from our lion spottings!

When we came across the pride, we were able to see two baby cubs that were only two-months old. We watched them play with their mum, who was referred to as Machine Gun. The cubs would playful bite each other and roll around, but my favorite was watching them bite their mum’s tail! That evening, we got to have cocktails with the hippos as they wadded in the water and the sunset—truly a magical experience. This night was also a very special night for one of the individuals in the group I was leading—it was her birthday! The Duba Plains Camp staff brought her a beautiful cake and sang a lovely birthday song to her, which really touched her. She was so moved by this hospitable gesture.
Enjoying some coffee during our exciting game drive!
The amazing chef at Duba Plains Camp, Steve! We LOVED his food.

Georgene, the birthday girl, is so honored when she sees the cake coming out!
Happy birthday to Georgene
The last day at Duba Plains, we came across a new pride, which had six members. They were chasing a herd of buffalo into a particular position so that they could attack at the right time and angle. It was truly fascinating to observe the rawness of nature. Since it was our last day, we were so, so sad and wanted to see more of the prides! I cannot wait to go back . . .

I’m ready to go, although I spent the morning in the Tetons watching 4 grizzly, one coyote, a beaver, and two golden eagles – all in one place. Almost as good as Africa here in Americas Serengeti.
I haven’t done safari yet, but I wish I will one day! Love the photos too. 🙂
