Situated in Zimbabwe’s magnificent Hwange National Park, Somalisa Camp can easily be described as luxury meets adventure. This luxury-tented camp is also boutique in size with only 12 beds (6 spacious and well-appointed canvas tents) to ensure that guests enjoy a completed personalized experience while on their African safari vacation.
Within Hwange National Park—one of Africa’s most wildlife-abundant regions—you’ll have the opportunity to witness a tremendous spectrum of animal species and hundreds of bird species. One of the things that makes Hwange so famous is the population of elephants (currently thousands upon thousands of elephants reside in Hwange).
Some of the animals you might witness on walking safaris and game drives in the park include the Big Five, zebra, cheetah, wild dog, gemsbok, giraffe, hippo, hyena, aardvark, and many more.
Who is Somalisa Camp perfect for?
Somalisa Camp is an excellent option for an African family safari vacation, as they can accommodate children as young as six years old. I’ve been with my family before and we absolutely loved it! Some of our favorite moments were when we were sitting in the pool and elephants would come up to it for a drink. See below for pictures from this experience:
The camp is also perfect for anyone looking for true intimacy combine with a hint of luxury and adventure.
If you plan on taking a trip to Zimbabwe, you can pair Somalisa Camp with a visit to Victoria Falls for the ultimate Zimbabwe safari itinerary.
When to visit Somalisa Camp?
Although the camp is open year round and has excellent game viewing throughout the year, the best times to visit Somalisa Camp (and Hwange National Park in general) are during the months between July and October. This is considered the dry season and visitors can witness huge herds of elephants during this time, as well as other large concentrations of animals.

Ok my bags are packed. I have not been to Zimbabwe in years.
We honeymoon-ed at Somalisa – BEAUTIFUL place. A MUST VISIT for anyone visiting Zimbabwe!
Love the elephants & think I’ll use one for an article (have a green topiary one already) … and maybe they can be one of my mascots.
PS Sandy, Hope you give me a call one of these days …
