Two of our recent clients, Faith and Tim Klaus just returned home from a birthday safari vacation to Africa (celebrating Tim’s birthday).
Here’s a look at their trip to Africa from the eyes of Faith Klaus:
“My husband and I recently returned from South Africa. Sandy and her team at Hills of Africa Travel put together a spectacular travel plan that included two beautiful and luxurious safari camps (Tintswalo and Londolozi) and several days in Cape Town.
The attention to detail was just wonderful. There were notes and special touches at each camp, including a birthday cake and South African dancers at our first camp to specifically celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was so special.
We had a private tour guide in Cape Town that works with Sandy. Our guide picked us up each morning and we spent one day on a tour of Cape Winelands and the other day we spent touring the Cape of Good Hope. Sandy arranged for us to have a private lunch at the home of one of the top 10 chefs in South Africa, Bruce Robertson. Hills of Africa was also able to procure reservations to the top restaurant in Cape Town, including The Test Kitchen. BOTH EXPERIENCES WERE UNBELIEVABLE AND THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT SANDY’S CONTACTS!!

Sandy makes you feel like an insider, not a tourist. We felt so taken care of. There was no detail overlooked with her planning. She sent us emails almost weekly, updating us prior to our trip to Africa with information on how to pack and other details that were just essential for the trip planning. ?My husband and I have traveled all over the world and by FAR the trip that Sandy put together was our favorite. She has put together African safari vacations for our friends and the response has been equally as enthusiastic. She has such passion for what she does.”
See below for some interview questions that we asked Faith in regards to her recent South African safari vacation and South Africa safari tours:
You visited Africa for your husband’s birthday celebration. What inspired you to take him to Africa to celebrate this special occasion?
My husband has wanted to return to Africa since we went to Zimbabwe in 2001. I decided to use his birthday as an excuse to take him.
What did you love most about your visit to Cape Town?
Cape Town is beautiful. We loved the Cape of Good Hope and the penguins—the topography was beautiful. However, what I loved most was the sophistication of the city and the food and wine. We went to some fantastic restaurants, including The Test Kitchen. The Cape Winelands were also absolutely beautiful.

List the top three best parts of your trip to Africa. What made these experiences so special and unique to you?
1. We absolutely loved Tintswalo camp. The staff was fabulous. We loved our guide Darren who was also amazing. The place was absolute luxury and the wildlife was incredible.
2. We really enjoyed our lunch at The Boathouse and dinner at The Test Kitchen and our whole Cape Town experience. The Cape Winelands were incredibly upscale.
3. We enjoyed learning all of the history of South Africa from our guide Pam.
Do you think you’ll embark on another trip to Africa in the future? If so, where would you want to visit on your next African safari vacation?
Yes, I do think we’ll return; next time to Tanzania, Mozambique, and / or Botswana.
