“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
I discovered this quote whilst reading an article the other day and found it to be one of the most truthful insights into travel and life in general, as well as one of the most powerful reasons to explore the world.
To me, this quote means that the purpose of travel isn’t to escape our daily lives, but rather, to enhance our daily lives, and continue feeding ourselves with the riches or travel so that each day is more fulfilling than the next. The more often we travel, the more fulfilled our lives become with new experiences, newfound friends, compassion, adventure, and personal growth. And in the end, when we look back on our lives, we can say that we lived life to its absolute fullest instead of looking back and wishing we had done more to enhance our lives. It’s about incorporating travel into your life as much as possible, so that you continually grow and enjoy each and every day to its greatest potential.
I find that many people spend all of their time working, sitting in traffic on the way to work, and constantly plugged in to the online world and realm of technology. This, in turn, can cause families to become disconnected and physically inactive, and develop high levels of stress and tension. This, in my opinion, is no way to live a fulfilling life.
So how can you strengthen the bond of your family and live a healthier and happy life together? Travel often and spend plenty of time in natural spaces.
Arguably the best place in the world to go on a fulfilling family vacation is Africa. With hundreds upon hundreds of miles of unspoiled terrain inhabited only by exotic wildlife as far as the eye can see, many parts of Southern, Eastern, and Central Africa offer families the perfect setting for bonding, relaxation, and adventure.
Below I’ve outlined a few extraordinary benefits of taking an African family safari vacation to the wildernesses of Africa:
- With virtually no cell phone coverage and limited Internet access, Africa’s natural spaces encourage families to break away from the chains of technology and actually experience life, in the moment, with each other. The lack of technology encourages conversation and observation.
- Busy schedules, poor diets (often due to lack of time to make nutritious meals), and lack of exercise can often lead to health issues over time. Hiking, biking, and nature walks, are all fantastic ways to stimulate physical activity and there are plenty of natural spaces in Africa to enjoy these activities!
- Stress is relative. Adults might experience stress at work but children also experience stress—just in a different way. For example, children might experience stress in their social circle, the classroom, when trying to decide their path in life, and more. Family travel to natural spaces enables all members to take a step back and analyze the stressful situations in their lives in a new light so that stress can be reduced.
As you can see, Africa has the unique ability to open our eyes to a new perspective on life and encourage us, as a family, to make positive changes in our daily lives. So that rather than constantly wanting to escape from our daily lives, we constantly strive to enhance our lives by feeding ourselves with the riches of travel and ultimately ending up with a life well lived.
